Are you a Senior Bookkeeper interested in moving into a supervisory role? Our client is seeking an experienced bookkeeping account handler to take a role as a Virtual Finance Office Supervisor to join their existing team in Saffron Walden. This is an ideal role for a bookkeeper looking to take the next step in their career and/or someone in the south Cambridge area who would like to shorten their commute and have flexible working. 

As a co-supervisor of the Virtual Finance Team, you’ll play a vital role in the practice, helping guide your team and carrying out bookkeeping tasks to facilitate the completion of VAT returns, management reports and preparation of annual accounts, whilst utilising the latest cloud accounting technology.

The Virtual Finance Team provides clients with modern bookkeeping services, utilising the latest cloud technology. Playing a critical role in the practice, the team carry out essential bookkeeping tasks to facilitate the completion of VAT returns and management reports, as well as give a sound base for the preparation of the annual accounts.

Based near Saffron Walden, you’ll have the opportunity to work on a hybrid or fully remote level (in the UK) once integrated into the workplace.

Responsibilities:

  • Undertaking bookkeeping duties for own portfolio of clients (various industries and sizes)
  • Maintain client accounting records of own portfolio of clients on various software but mainly cloud packages
  • Tasks to be completed for more complex clients include purchase ledger, sales ledger, bank rec, journals and some reporting
  • Good understanding of balance sheet P&L and posting year-end adjustments
  • Understand and post month-end adjustments including prepayments, accruals and depreciation
  • Able to prepare complex CIS returns
  • Able to prepare complex VAT returns
  • Timely completion of VAT returns
  • Prepare management accounts and accompanying information
  • Ability to self-check own work
  • Prepare reports, letters, and other documents
  • Excellent organisation of your own workload and assisting in the organisation and review of team members’ workloads
  • Where necessary, train and support clients
  • Identify and implement procedures and systems for new clients
  • Train clients on functions of cloud accounting software to help them get information to us and ensure any work they do doesn’t impact negatively on the team’s time
  • Knowledge to convert clients onto cloud accounting software, with some/limited supervision
  • Assist in the supervision of the Virtual Finance Team
  • Assist in managing deadlines of the wider team
  • Assisting in overseeing and reviewing bookkeeping tasks of the team
  • Establish a rapport with clients, directors, managers, and staff
  • Telephone and video meeting liaison

What you’ll bring to the table

  • 4-5 years of bookkeeping experience, ideally within a practice environment
  • Ability to use own initiative and work autonomously, as well as part of a team
  • Adaptable, keep and flexible approach
  • Supervisory experience
  • Punctual and attentive to best support a busy team
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Ability to prioritise a very busy workload and work effectively under pressure
  • Excellent aptitude in monitoring the team’s weekly tasks
  • Professional telephone manner
  • Diplomatic, discreet, polite and patient
  • Strong interpersonal skills, ability to build and maintain relationships with senior team
  • members, clients and suppliers
  • Advanced IT skills (including MS Word, Excel, Quick Books Online ‘QBO’ and Xero)
  • Excellent written and spoken English
  • Proficient use of email, calendar and the internet
