Accountant / Tax Specialist – Saffron Walden

About the Workplace

Our client is a long-established chartered accountancy firm in Saffron Walden with offices in Great Chesterford and Newmarket. They take pride in providing proactive accounting services and tax advice to owner-managed businesses across a variety of industries.

The Accounts and Tax Team provides direct support to clients with compliance requirements, such as accounts and tax returns preparation, as well as general support and problem solving. Support to business clients ranges from making recommendations on best business practice to helping create tax efficiencies.

About the Role

As part of the role, you will work to produce annual statutory accounts and tax related matters for clients, as well as identify advice on best practice and recommendations for partner review. In addition to providing support to our clients from an accounting and tax perspective, you will also work on the wider goals of the team and firm – including the development of junior team members.

Duties can be tailored to accommodate someone with a mixed skill set or a specialist in accounts or tax. Due to the growth within our teams, we can also accommodate various levels of experience. 

Duties will include, but are not limited to:

• Accounts preparation for limited companies, partnerships, and sole traders
• Preparation of corporation tax returns
• Preparation of personal tax returns
• Supporting clients in accounting and taxation issues
• Assisting in the preparation for client meetings and client visits
• Working as part of a team to carry out additional client and in-house projects as required
• Assisting clients with systems development and improvements

What you bring to the table

You have a great work ethic and be ready to hit the ground running. You have first class time-management skills and good attention to detail. As a crucial part of the team, you’ll enjoy a wide variety of work.

• At least 3 years of proven previous experience working in an accounting practice environment 
• ACCA qualified, qualified by experience (QBE), or studying for professional qualifications
• Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills
• Superb communication skills
• Solid technical knowledge
• Ability to use own initiative and work autonomously, as well as part of a team
• Good knowledge of Word, Excel, and Outlook
